Creme de La Mer~

This is my personal review of Creme De La Mer. I used it for a year already but not religiously as I still have plenty in my jar. I bought this when I was in one of my impulsive shopaholic moods during my lunch break at Bourke Street, David Jones. Bought a small jar for $250AUD. I was gonna buy the bigger version, but that cost $450AUD, and I've never tried La Mer before that day, so I just bought the smaller one.

Well I have mixed reviews about this. I used it for a month every night and sometimes during the day as well. It made my pores looked less visible, my face looked more dewy/glowy looking and some pimple scars have lightened up which was great. But you can achieve the same results with a bit of vaseline on top of a good moisturiser. (My next update will be about Vaseline, the secret to winter skin)

With continued use, I noticed a small white dot near my eyes. The small white dot is known as 'milia' which is basically a little bit of protein trapped under your skin. Plus sometimes my skin felt itchy around my eye area. I then realised that using this creme everyday is simply too rich for my skin to handle, so then I limited my use. Instead, I used rosehip oil to moisture my skin, which seemed to work a charm. The milia just disappeared after that.

During the day when I used La Mer on my skin and applied foundation. The foundation did not slip and stayed on very well with a light dusting of translucent powder. It also gave me a glow under my foundation. I have to say that La Mer does make a great foundation primer, especially for girls with normal/dry skin. I also received a lot of compliments from people about my skin.

So I was up on the internet and googled up La Mer. A lot of people have said that Creme De La Mer is pretty much the same as Nivea Creme (blue one.) They have similar ingredients, smell similar, etc.

So I just googled up the ingredients of the two products and found:

Nivea Creme Ingredients

Triple Purified Water, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Isohexadecane, Microcrystalline Wax, Lanolin Alcohol, Paraffin, Panthenol, Magnesium Sulfate, Decyl Oleate, Octyldodecanol, Aluminum Stearate, Fragrance, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Citric Acid, Magnesium Stearate

The two have these ingredients in common:

Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Isohexadecane, Microcrystalline Wax, Lanolin Alcohol, Paraffin, Panthenol, Magnesium Sulfate, Decyl Oleate, Octyldodecanol, Fragrance, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Citric Acid, Magnesium Stearate.

Anyway, the ingredients are pretty much similar and apparently smell the same. The Nivea Creme looks like this.


From reading the reviews on Makeupalley.com, a lot of people said the Nivea Creme from Germany is the best one, and I'm not sure why. Maybe because there is no petroleum in there? Also it is recommended to buy a tube version as it comes in a jar which is not very hygienic as you dip your hands in there all the time.

I have personally never tried the Nivea Creme but might give it a go if I run out of Creme De LaMer.

Pros

- A lot of celebrities use this product.
- Nicely packaged. Luxury product
- Created by a scientist named Max Huber. He created Le Mer cream to heal a chemical burn.
- Lightens scars
- Heals skin
- Moisturises stubborn dry skin (Great for winter)
- Makes a perfect foundation primer

Cons

- Way too expensive
- Estee Lauder bought out the brand, and no one knows if they make the same formula as Max Huber
- Similar ingredients to Nivea which cost a lot less


Overall, I will give this product a 4/5 because of the huge price.

Rub it between your finger tips till it becomes translucent and gently pat on you rskin. Please note that it is recommended to warm the creme up in your palms, but I prefer finger tips. Don't rub the creme in as your skin won't absorb it that much.

Anyway, I got my UV CURING LAMP AND GEL KIT TODAY IN THE MAIL! =D YAY!

But I just did my nails a couple of days ago, so I can't test it out yet.
